Some dogs and especially older dogs eating a kibble diet with grain or grain-free that are high in carbohydrates require more carbohydrate-digesting enzymes, fat and various types of protein-digesting enzymes.

Kibble is processed at high temperatures (120 deg. C - 248 deg. F) and made from highly processed ingredients. To extract the maximum level of nutrients and not have undigested materials enter the colon, causing many digestive issues. Ranging from diarrhea, bloating, vomiting, bad breath or horrific-smelling flatulence (farts).   

Excessive formation of gas in the stomach or intestine is referred to as flatulence. The most common cause of chronic flatulence is caused by a diet that is poorly digested by the dog. These poorly digestible diets cause excessive fermentation in the colon and subsequent gas formation.  Carbohydrates, starches and high-fat diets are all commonly associated with flatulence in dogs. 

Often older/senior dogs, even those that are being fed premium kibble food (with or without grain) will experience flatulence and suffer maldigestion because of poor digestion and poor absorption of nutrients from the diet.

Formulated with bacterial and fungal origin digestive enzyme sources because these can be better for pets as they tend to resist digestion in the stomach and function in a wider range of pH.
